A shared approach to the skills needs of the UK screen industry
The UK screen industry is a major national success story, supported by a highly skilled and creative workforce across every nation and region.
But the sector is also navigating significant change. Alongside preparing for future skills needs, it's necessary to consider how better coordination, clearer pathways and greater transferability of skills can support both the long-term strength of the industry and the people who work within it.
The Screen Industries Skills Plan (SISP) has been established to bring the sector together around these shared workforce challenges and opportunities.
Convened by ScreenSkills, the Plan brings together expertise from employers, broadcasters, streamers, studios, independent production companies, freelancers, industry bodies, training and education providers and screen organisations from across the UK.
What the plan aims to do
The Screen Industries Skills Plan will:
- identify shared workforce priorities across the screen industry
- understand where skills provision is already working effectively and where gaps remain
- improve coordination between existing and emerging skills initiatives
- identify opportunities for greater collaboration and collective action
- develop practical recommendations for industry and government
- support a skilled, inclusive and sustainable workforce across the UK's nations and regions.
The Plan is designed to complement rather than replace existing skills strategies, programmes and initiatives. By bringing different parts of the industry together, it will focus on the areas where greater coordination can add value and achieve more with organisations working collaboratively.
From shared priorities to action
The first strategic framework will set out the evidence gathered through the programme, the priorities identified and recommendations for industry and government.
This will be followed by further work on delivery, including how actions will be owned, resourced and implemented.
The ambition is to move from a shared understanding of the industry's skills needs towards coordinated, practical action that can make a lasting difference.
